Operations Safety & Training Specialist

Department / Location: Operations / Plainfield Distribution Center Reports To: Director of Risk Management

Duties:
  • Develop a strong knowledge and understanding of all warehouse operations and systems to develop and deliver job-specific skills training for all warehouse associates.
  • Select, train, develop, and supervise the training activities of hourly Training Partners to ensure that effective, high quality, on-the-job training is delivered to hourly employees.
  • Develop training metrics and deliver effective training programs for hourly and salaried employees.
  • Oversee and carry out job certifications to ensure employees are properly trained under out Quality Management and Safety Management Systems.
  • Ensure that the facility is in compliance with state and federal training requirements including safety and other compliance training be conducting or coordinating all OSHA and DOT compliance training including but not limited to employee orientations, powered industrial truck training and certification, Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure, HazCom, LOTO, BBP, etc.
  • Support QMS (Quality “VR”) and compliance by writing and revising work instructions and providing training to all affected associates.
  • Prepare annual training calendar in conjunction with operations managers to ensure operational training needs are anticipated, identified and met by developing and delivering appropriate, timely training.
  • Provide updated training on revised work instructions in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate training files and records for all DC employees.
  • Maintain a strong knowledge of changing warehouse work instructions and procedures.
  • Responsible for supporting company initiatives


  • Successful Candidate Requirements:
  • Strong independent leadership.
  • Strong verbal and written communication/presentation skills
  • Administrative skills to maintain accurate training records
  • Provide training for approximately 350 distribution center associates (hourly and salary), and supervising training activities of hourly Training Partners.
  • 2+ years of Supervisory skills preferred
  • Strong knowledge of Warehouse Management Systems and RF equipment to train associates in their use.
  • Certified on all warehouse functions including forklift operations.
  • Experience:

  • 5 – 7 years of experience
  • Good supervisory skills – 2 or more years of experience preferred
  • Must be able to be certified in all warehouse functions including forklift operations
  • Must have or develop a strong knowledge of Warehouse Management Systems and RF equipment to train employees in their use.
  • Minimum Education:

  • Associates / Bachelor’s Degree
  • OSHA Certified
