Do you have a passion for sports? Are you a data and analytics guru? We’re looking for a dynamic leader to join our team in the recently created role of: Senior Director of Data & Analytics Technology.
The Senior Director of Data & Analytics is a crucial leader in driving the use of data to understand our athletes, deliver next-generation experiences and drive our use of AI/ML to empower business decisions across all aspects of DICK’S Sporting Goods. They will be responsible for advocating for modern data patterns, being a vital member of a team defining our Data & Analytics strategy, and owning the engineering teams responsible for data platform, engineering, and data product delivery. They should be obsessed with how data solves business problems backed with a deep understanding of the current data and analytics technology landscape.
Partnerships – This role will partner with business leaders to mature existing capabilities and look for disruptive ways to provide new access to data and advanced insights to drive results. They will work closely with technical product, engineering, and architecture leaders to establish an aligned vision, designs, and clear roadmaps.
Deliverables – The Senior Director of Data & Analytics will identify the technical and operational needs and empower, recruit, and shape their organization to deliver on the mission. They will deliver ingestion and catalog platforms, robust data engineering practices, frictionless AI/ML platforms, and core data products to become the source of truth for unlocking critical insight across the company.

Key Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Leadership: Provide consistent vision, direction and leadership to the Data & Analytics Technology teams. Work with senior leadership to deliver how results are reported across the organization. Work closely with leaders across the organization to deliver reporting and analytics solutions that meet their evolving needs. Work closely business, architecture, and product teams to unlock the value of data for DICK’S Sporting Goods.
Service Delivery: Maintain relationships with business partners and vendors to deliver capabilities to meet needs and develop plans to close gaps. Ensure the staff is delivering to the expectations and make appropriate course corrections with staffing, 3rd party contracting, and automation.
Staff Management: Responsible for the leadership and management of the centralized Data & Analytics Technology function. Recruitment of exceptional talent, team building, goal setting, and performance reviews. Mentor, train, and cross training of staff. Train and provide technical assistance to staff, to ensure optimal coverage.
Budget Management: Budget planning and management responsibility for capital expenses to support continuous improvement of the quality of the teams and the tools they use. Actively provide review and guidance to meet budget goals. Ensure delivery of high quality projects that will be managed to a budget.
What we’re looking for
- Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems or other technical disciplines preferred
- Previous expertise in Retail, Supply Chain, eCommerce, AI/ML, Analytics, Data Science and “Big Data”
- 15+ years of work experience including leadership of multi-level teams
- Deep understanding of current Data Science landscape including Sagemaker, Kubeflow, TensorFlow, Jupyter Notebooks, model development lifecycle
- Proven experience in developing foundational data platform technologies including Data Lake, Delta, AVRO/Parquet, data security options like Ranger
- Proven experience working with cloud solutions for compute and data-specific services like Big Query, Redshift, Snowflake
- Strong understanding of discovery, catalog, data quality and master data solutions and approaches at an enterprise level
- Superior relationship-building, communication and negotiation skills within cross-functional teams
- Strong managerial skills, with a track record of hiring and developing strong individual contributors. Ability to prioritize and manage work in a fast-paced environment
- Solid experience in working with open-source Data & Analytics components
