Scope
The Domain Architect of Cloud, Platforms, and Foundation technology is a crucial leader for driving the power of robust cloud technology and modern software platforms leading our foundational investments in technology. They lead through architectural expertise, planning, and solutions touching all of our key initiatives at Dicks Sporting Goods. They are a senior technical leader focused on the power of software development automation, deployment and runtime modernization, how we leverage cloud and key platform design for our retail, e-commerce, marketing, merchandising, product development, and supply chain solutions.
Partnerships
A Domain Architect is connected to key business and technical leaders to understand their goals, works closely with product management to shape the capability requirements, and engineering teams to support the delivery of the capabilities aligned to a holistic domain solution plan. They influence all of these partners to drive end-to-end thinking and the art of the possible.
Deliverables
The Domain Architect of Cloud, Platforms, and Foundation technology will own and drive clarity into our foundational technology's architectural vision at Dicks Sporting Goods. Their delivery scope includes:
- Identifying and designing key platforms.
- Creating and shaping our plans for leveraging the modern cloud.
- Modernizing for how we build and deploy.
- Mapping this to security and data domains.
They achieve this by producing integrated domain views of our current state, understanding the landscape for platforms and cloud, creating reference architectures, leading critical designs for new capabilities, and acting as a point of governance on architectural decisions directly or through working groups. They also partner and serve as part of a broader architecture team and incorporate patterns, requirements, and standards for our foundations into all domains.

Through their leadership and output, the Domain Architect shapes how we unlock cloud and platforms' power to provide a stable and robust foundation supporting major business solutions at Dicks Sporting Goods. They are a catalyst to simplify, modernize, and identify foundational solutions that offer our athletes and teammates reliable next-generation experiences.
STRATEGIC DESIGN
- Recommends and participates in the development of architecture strategy for core foundational capabilities like cloud, networking, security, and platforms.
- Models and assesses the organizations' baseline Architecture.
- Researches overall information and communications technology solutions for technical requirements and business capabilities.
- Advises and recommends architecture strategies, processes and methodologies
- Recommends and participates in the analysis, evaluation and development of enterprise long-term strategic and operation plans to ensure that the architecture strategy is consistent with long-term business objectives
- Aligns Enterprise Architecture with strategic product roadmaps.
- Identifies and recommends areas appropriate for further study and participates in any proof of concept projects required to thoroughly investigate architectural possibilities and strengthen arguments for adoption
- Design and define a set of architecture artifacts to support the development of architectures in accordance with architecture policy
- Contributes to the creation and review of a systems capability strategy which meets the strategic requirements of the business.
- Deliver architectural initiatives that drive revenue and improve efficiency in line with business strategy.
STRATEGIC IMPLEMENTATION
- Conducts and/or actively participates in meetings related to designated projects, with internal and external partners
- Recommends and participates in activities related to the documentation and development of the Enterprise Architecture.
- Identifies implementation risks and analyzes potential impact on the enterprise and on the achievement of scheduled objectives.
- Responsible for ensuring that architected solutions are implemented to standards
- Develops models and plans to drive forward the strategy, taking advantage of opportunities to improve business performance. Analyzes impact of information systems, data management, practices, procedures, organization and technology.
GOVERNANCE
- Leads activities related to the maintenance of the Enterprise Architecture.
- Collaborate with all relevant parties to review the objectives and constraints of each solution and determine conformance with the EA. Recommends the most suitable technical architecture and defines the solution at a high level.
- Recommends and participates in the design and implementation of standards, tools, and methodologies
- Identifies implementation risks and analyzes potential impact on the enterprise and on the achievement of scheduled objectives.
- • Provides cross project architectural governance that includes identifying relevant strategy, policy and roadmaps.
EDUCATION
- Shares best practices, lessons learned and constantly updates the technical system architecture requirements based on changing technologies, and knowledge related to recent, current, and upcoming vendor products and solutions.
- Provide guidance on the business architecture, the necessary level of management and administrative oversight to achieve the requirements and objectives of tasks
- Promotes Architecture benefits throughout organization to communicate expectations and establish partnerships
What we’re looking for
- Bachelor's Degree
- 10-15 years of experience
- Computer Science or other engineering with addtional job experience
- Experience as a technical architect for a major tech implementation
- Retail a plus
