The Director of Visual Merchandising – Space Management is responsible for the total store space productivity for all brick and mortar channels of the DICK’S Sporting Goods banners of business. In this role, the Director must demonstrate a global business perspective on the DICK’S Sporting Goods athlete (customer), categories of product, in-store aesthetic direction and merchandising presentation standards in order to drive data based space allocation moves. Through data driven analysis and decision making, the Director will lead the Space Management team to improve financial results and enhance the in-store experience for all DICK’S athletes. By establishing and maintaining strong cross functional partnership with leadership across the Global Merchandising division and Field teams, the Director acts as a key stakeholder in delivering financial results that meet or exceed expectations by ensuring accurate execution of strategic product assortment initiatives and in-store visual experiences.
Strategic Guidance and Cross Functional Partnerships:
Relentlessly drive space optimization improvements to the in-store experience by providing vision, strategy and direction focused on improving sales, margin, turn, units per transaction and revenue growth.
Serve as the department subject matter expert to the merchant organization, at all levels of leadership, to translate their strategic product vision into the physical space of brick and mortar locations. Provide solutions to maximize space, drive growth, enhance brands and the athlete in-store experience.
Collaborate with internal business partners across Merchandising, Planning, Allocation & Replenishment, Customer Insights, Store Operations, Construction, and our stores to develop effective strategic plans based on historical trends, future forecasts, store specific insights and current results.
Analyze performance metrics and provide solutions to larger Visual, Store Environment and Merchant teams to maximize space productivity. Apply expertise to analyze data sets and extract actionable insights to drive space management decisions across product categories. Provide collaborative resolutions when conflicts arise
Conduct root cause analysis on field provided feedback to reduce pain points, drive ease in execution of floor moves and drive productivity. Create consistent departmental best practices and drive adoption.
Identify analytical tools and reporting needed to support space productivity and create a culture that embraces the utilization of advanced analytics techniques
Regularly review customer insights and the competitive landscape for features and trends as they relate to best practices for in-store merchandising.
Process Flow and Project Management:
Own the creation, maintenance, and accuracy of the Visual Planning Calendar. Coordinate timing of required merchandising activities and store workload budget to ensure desired results and efficiencies for the stores.
Ensure all Floor Planning Analysts are accurately completing store specific and prototype floorplans in alignment with the Visual Planning Calendar. Set expectations on timelines and deliverables with the Manager of Space management and hold teams accountable for results.
Retail Integration Management:
Develop the strategic direction of brand shop space allocation within the larger store footprint. Own the creation, design and budget management/forecasting of shops within all banners of business.
Own alignment of brand shop assets fixtures and signage to ensure alignment with the DSG brand.
Ensure all merchandising strategic initiatives and special projects are planned, budgeted for and executed within established deadlines, working in collaboration with cross-functional business units to meet company strategic vision within budgetary parameters.
Drive cross functional partnership with Store Environment, Visual, Merchandising and Marketing to develop and implement brand shops in new and existing locations.
Monitor performance of brand shops to ensure growth plans are being met. Provide solutions, updates or new ideas to maintain brand performance
Supervising and Developing Talent:
Define a clear vision and strategy in order to communicate expectations.
Demonstrate a flexible leadership style to foster team member engagement including recognition.
Manage execution responsibilities and workload of direct/indirect reports to achieve department deliverables on time and with quality. Provide direct reports with timely and regular feedback to support teammate development/ growth in role.
Hold all team members accountable to drive results by being available, removing barriers and obstacles, facilitating change, and providing coaching/feedback related to performance.
Establish strategic staffing and succession plans (0-2 year horizon) within span of control and gain alignment; successfully deliver on proposed staffing objectives.
Drive the talent selection process in alignment with the company's talent philosophy for open direct/indirect reporting positions; Ensure all direct reports are appropriately trained and on-boarded.

What we’re looking for
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
10-15+ years of comparable work experience
In-depth technical knowledge and previous experience with:
JDA Intactix Suite – Space, Floor, IKB & AutoCAD
Microsoft Suite including VBA Skills
Previous experiences including:
Retail space planning or store design preferred
Retail merchandising, store management, buying or inventory management is required.
