What You’ll Do In This Role
At DICK’S Sporting Goods, you will have the opportunity to learn from and work with the leaders of a market lead and Fortune 400 company. DICK’S Sporting Goods is returning to campus this year; to recruit, train and develop top collegiate talent into well-rounded retail professionals, creating a talent pipeline to support future leadership needs.
Based out of our Pittsburgh, PA Customer Support Center (CSC), this 48 week on-boarding program will build skills in the core fundamentals of merchandising.
After a robust orientation, you will spend 10 weeks in a Pittsburgh store location. By spending time in one of our stores, you will gain a dynamic view of our athletes, products, store operations and omni-channel experience. You will experience each department within the store, allowing you to engage with athletes and provide an exemplary athlete experience.
Throughout the remainder of the program, you will be immersed in the business performing the specific roles of an Assistant Inventory Planner and an Assistant Buyer. The role you hired into will be the last and longest experience you complete in program.
Assistant Inventory Planners ensure the right product is in the right stores, at the right time for our athletes. You will utilize the allocations and replenishment systems in order to keep our stores in stock on a daily basis. In addition, you will complete ad-hoc analysis to find opportunities and risks based on competitive and regional needs.
In this role, you will also partner with the Merchandise Planning team to provide future projections to our vendors and ensure our financial responsibility. You’ll spend time learning about our supply chain to understand inventory flow paths, time to market, and internal processes through the distribution network.
Assistant Buyers carry out the basic responsibilities of an introductory buying role such as creating styles, writing orders, entering promotions and submitting price changes. In this role, you will also communicate with vendors, assist in identifying products to carry in-store, analyze the space allocation and flow of those products all while working with cross-functional teams such as Advertising, Visual Merchandising, and Pricing to execute the sale of those goods.
You will also partner with the Product Development team to gain exposure to the full life-cycle of a sporting goods product through sourcing, negotiating, producing, shipping and selling that good. Finally, you will experience direct communication with the Merchandise Planning team to develop pre-season financial plans and complete ad-hoc analysis to understand seasonal trends.
To complete the program, you will present a comprehensive project on your business category, demonstrating foundational knowledge of the merchandising function.
