What You’ll Do In This Role
The Community Outreach & Education Lead – Public Lands will guide and implement the use of special events to further the stores goals in community engagement, guide participation and outdoor stewardship. These responsibilities include collaborating with internal departments and external vendors to manage event production, developing relationships with external clients and community partners that will host events on/at the store and coordinating the Public Lands brand activation and participation in local outdoor community events. The Community Outreach & Education Lead will oversee the execution of each event and be able to gracefully advise store leadership in order to maintain event timelines, budgets, and desired outcomes. They will also coordinate the execution of training clinics, content, processes, procedures and guidelines for all store guides. They will oversee classroom and hands on training for guides which include collaboration with internal departments and external vendors to manage any required training events. This role will assist the store leaders in the production and execution of hyper-local training content for use in explorer facing clinics planned out for each location.

Community Outreach & Education Lead Duties:
- Supervise the production of multiple events including but not limited to vendor events, engagement events, marketing activations, press events, private events, and explorer activations.
- Schedule regular event production meetings with departments, creating and distributing event prospectus and run of show documents to organize teams and productions.
- Partner with the Community Marketing Manager and other External vendor teams to ensure all staff are informed of event details and the potential impacts to explorer, guide and community.
- Manage multiple events simultaneously making adjustments as required to ensure event success in a fast-paced environment.
- Maintain detailed files, notes, records, and trace systems to ensure the meeting and event experience meets the guides and explorer’s expectations
- Verify space requirements set-up with the event owner and ensure that the event space needed is properly maintained and in good condition.
- Enthusiastically encourage guide and explorer participation
- Prepare promotional items and event results
- Respond to inquiries from the public, generate permits and event plans
- Facilitate classroom, small group, and on-the-job training for new hires and existing associates, representing the company in a positive and professional manner, coordinate and schedule all training for new and existing associates to accommodate the needs of departments including new hire orientation as well as any follow up training.
- Research, compile, and maintain training program records and prepare all training materials and set up training sites for various retail programs.
- Providing general L&D support including; creating and hosting sessions to boost employee engagement and professional development, and consulting with cross functional teams. Assist retail stores answer questions regarding policies and procedures. Produce and create training bulletins and memos
- Track and communicate training attendance and/or skill levels to other departments as needed.
- Work closely with vendor reps to host and facilitate on-site product training for guides on an ongoing basis to ensure best in class product knowledge/service.
- Educate both guides and explorers on ongoing access and equity initiatives to support to company’s ongoing commitment to I&D.
- Prioritize discussion and training resources that focus on environmental issues, public lands protection and opening the outdoors to all to maintain and continue development of all guides and explorers.
All Guides, (our associates), are required to adhere to all safety policies and procedures. Additionally, as business needs arise, other tasks may become necessary.
What we’re looking for
Success Profile:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1-3 years of Customer Service, Events Coordinator, and Training and Development experience
- Exceptional customer service
- Outstanding organization skills
- Strong tie to community outreach
- Strong work ethic, time management skills and the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
