The Director of UX will lead a customer-centered design and development approach in creating the most innovative and usable interactive experiences. In this role, you will define and advocate a consistent, intuitive user interface and design across all of our digital experiences – site, mobile and in-store apps. You will be responsible for identifying and executing the strategy of all development and deployment processes for multiple DICK’S Sporting Goods web properties across a multi-functional platform.

This role will require a highly collaborative leader, responsible for delivering customer experiences that are measurable and drive higher conversion and satisfaction across all of our digital products. This role will work closely with the product management, user experience and engineering teams and additionally with our key business partners to solve complex business challenges and customer interactions.


The role you’ll play:

  • User Interaction & Design, Strategy & Execution: Define the overall UI strategy and vision for our user interaction experience across all channels, aligned with our broader business strategy. Advocate for an integrated, consistent User Interface throughout all our product experiences. Help design a cohesive set of style guides, design principles and patterns that can be utilized everywhere. Lead the creative process for Dick’s Sporting Goods web properties, including the creative aspects of site content updates, support for front-end feature/functionality enhancements and launching new websites.
  • Web Development, Strategy & Execution: Identifies the definition of and actively leads the continued refinement of development strategies and workflow processes for all Dick’s eCommerce properties. Includes Dicks.com, GolfGalaxy.com, FieldandStreamShop.com, CaliaStudio.com. Provide thought leadership within the business on how to approach technical challenges and how to develop the necessary solutions to build world class digital experiences. Act as primary liaison between development team and other internal teams. Support the rapidly changing technology environment. Work with senior management and development team to bring in new technologies. Lead the creation of and adherence to Dick’s eCommerce web development standards and guidelines, best practices and development life cycle. Lead the strategy of quality control process, ensuring site content accuracy.
  • Collaboration: Effectively collaborate to create world class, user-centric, branded e-commerce experiences. Define UI and development processes that achieve quality and improve efficiency and time to market; partner with other departments to optimize and improve efficiencies across teams. Including managing 3rd party technology relationships. Participate in RFPs and reviews of vendor roadmaps.
  • Teammate Leadership: Oversees staff management in the area of responsibility; including the recruitment of exceptional talent, team building, goal setting, and periodic reviews. Manage outside service providers, as necessary. Responsible for managing the UI and Front End Web Development teams
What you’ll bring to the table:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Web Design or equivalent professional experience.
  • Solid understanding of user-centered design processes and ability to balance customer needs with business goals in developing solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop innovative solutions and apply cutting edge user interface techniques.
  • 5-10+ years of hands-on experience in information architecture or website interaction design.
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience.
  • Solid understanding of the relationship between successful user interface design and its effect on key e-commerce metrics that drive business value.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, meeting facilitation, and presentation skills.
  • Superior relationship-building, communication and negotiation skills within cross-functional teams, including specific examples of successful working relationships and processes with product management and engineering.
  • Strong managerial skills, with a track record of hiring and developing strong individual contributors. Ability to prioritize and manage work in a fast-paced environment.
