OVERVIEW:

The Director of New Store Planning leads the development of New Store plans to ensure that new stores open with an assortment that fully represents the DICK’S Sporting Goods brand and meets the local merchandise needs of each new store. The New Store Planning Director also mentors, trains, develops and manages day to day activities of the New Store Planning and Closing store planning teams. The Director will own House of Sport doors in totality and new stores until they reach 1 year open. As a business leader, the Director is responsible for consulting, developing, and implementing process and technology improvements for New Store Planning and Closing Planning activities.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Oversee New Store Planning and execution of plans for all chains and departments. Ensuring that the appropriate levels of merchandise are committed to new stores to fill the physical space while meeting local customer needs. Work with Store Operations, Merchandising and Marketing for the Go to market strategy. This would include Grand Opening advertisements and ownership in key items and sales forecasts by category and time.
  • Lead the creation of ending inventory targets and processes for reducing inventory in closing and relocating stores. Ensuring that Remodeled stores have the appropriate assortments to meet both changes in space allocation and customer needs. Gain support of the Store Ops regarding the disposition of remaining inventory in closing locations and own the deployment.
  • Provide guidance to the PAR directors and managers to ensure inventory productivity in new stores though their first year. This would include overseeing the management of sister store copy percent and tier adjustments.
  • Develop strategies to address Cannibalization impacts on Comp stores. Oversee the implementation of assortment and sales history changes to provide the correct inventory needed to support impacted stores.
  • Develop a roadmap for inventory productivity and reduced transfers in HoS and 50k doors post GO. Work closely with cross functional partners to ensure space and productivity are in line with category sales expectation. This includes preopen and post open opportunities.
  • Build effective teams that apply their diverse skills and perspectives to achieve common goals by establishing common objectives and a shared mindset. Manage execution responsibilities and workload of direct/indirect reports to achieve functional deliverables on time and with quality. Develop talent through coaching, feedback, exposure, and stretch assignments in order to meet their own career goals as well as the organization’s priorities
  • Drive the talent selection process in alignment with the company’s talent philosophy for open direct/indirect reporting positions; Ensure all direct reports are appropriately trained and on-boarded. Drive engagement by creating a climate where people are motivated to do their best to help the organization achieve its objectives; focus on voice of teammate data (e.g., Engagement & Pulse results), partnering with organization leadership to drive necessary changes.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Management, Operations, Finance or related field

  • 10-15 years experience

  • Previous experience in a growth retail environment, focused on Merchandise Planning, Inventory Planning or Buying

  • Project Management Skills

  • Experience in Merchandise Planning, Assortment Planning, Allocation and Replenishment systems, preferred

  • Advanced Excel skills, required

  • Subject Matter Expertise with a business intelligence suite is required
